ANDY COSTELLO REMEMBERED
August 12, 2009 -
Tomorrow, August 13, 2001 will mark
the eight year anniversary of the
death of PRA driver Andy Costello
from brain cancer.
Andy was known as a quiet man who
loved to race and gave the sport
100% all the time. His first
event win came on May 26, 1991 at
Sacramento Bug-O-Rama #27 on a hole
shot win over Alan Deshotels.
Andy would win back-to-back Super
Street championships in 1994 and
1995 and then moved into the Pro
Stock class and claimed his third
PRA championship. In 1997,
Andy was diagnosed with a tumor in
the brain and after successful
surgery in April of that year
returned to racing for a few more
years until his retirement in early
2001. His three PRA
championships ranks him fourth (tied
with Shawn Geers) for the most
championships all-time.
Andy's Super Street car is still
around and apparently ready to go,
just waiting for the day that
his son is ready to guide it down
the quarter-mile and back into the
winner's circle.
